Set in the Vendee in a peaceful and tranquil location, La Grange comprises of 2 attractive farmhouses which have been converted to 4 spacious gites each with it's own fully equipped kitchen, garden furniture, bbq and large terrace. Ardoux is the 5 Bedroom Gite. The property enjoys views over open countryside and has 2.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.   There is also free use of a fishing lake only 300 metres from the property, with carp, pike, roach, tench etc.      WIFI

ACCOMMODATION

LA GRANGE ARDOUX - 5 Bedroom Gite.  Sleeps 10
The Ardoux gite is truly a spacious Farmhouse of nearly 200sq metres of living accommodation. The 5 bedrooms, three of which have en-suite bathrooms, together with the large kitchen and lounge/dining room have been modernised to give very comfortable and spacious holiday accommodation.

There are two entrances on the front of the building, the main entrance and the kitchen door. There  are also two patio doors onto the terrace at the rear.
From every room in the Gite there are excellent views of the gardens and surrounding countryside.
The main entrance leads into the hall, with a ground floor bedroom to the right and the lounge to the left. The beautiful Oak staircase take you to the first floor landing where there is quiet lounging area with antique easy chairs. On the first floor you will find 4 bedrooms and the bathroom. There is a WC and washbasin under the stairs.

The Kitchen is large and has all modern appliances. a hob with 4 burners, double fan over, microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine,and tumble dryer.
The double sink has views over the swimming pool and gardens.
There are very large work surfaces and huge storage and you will find all the pots, pans, and utensils etc., needed to cater for 10 people.
The kitchen is fully tiled for ease of cleaning.

 

Bedroom 1. off the hall, has a double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle,WC., and washbasin, a dressing room with wardrobe storage, and a lounge area with two easy chairs and a coffee table. There are patio doors onto the terrace.
Bedroom 2. on the first floor, has double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle, WC., and washbasin, a dressing room with wardrobe storage, and a lounge area with two easy chairs and a coffee table. The bedroom has magnificant exposed Oak beams with King post.
Bedroom 3. on the first floor, has double bed, ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle,WC., and washbasin, wardrobe and two easy chairs and coffee table. Exposed Oak beams with king post are a great feature of this room.
Bedrooms 4 & 5each have two single beds, wardrobe and chest of draws. The rooms have exposed Oak beams.

The Bathroom on the first floor has shower cubicle, WC.,and washbasin.

Swimming Pools
Indoor Heated Pool
The Indoor heated pool is an 8m x 4m with a tiled finish, it is 1.5m deep.
There are tables and chairs around the pool and the large patio doors open out onto a large terrace with tables and chairs and there are great views across the surrounding country side.
The Pool has a heat cover which retains the heat when not in use.
The pool is protected by a by patio doors which has a high catch which must be fastened when the last responsible adult leaves.

Outdoor Pool
The Outdoor swimming pool is 10 x 6m with roman steps, it varies in height from 2.4m at the deep end to .9m at the shallow end. It is constructed in concrete with a fibre glass liner.
The pool is not heated other than by the sun, but is generally at a suitable temperature from May till October 
The pool has a large terrace with tables and chairs and is protected by a hedge and security fence with self-closing gates.
The sterilization of the pool is by saline electrolysis. To put it simply the pool has salt in it and the electrolysis machine breaks the salt down into its base components, chlorine and sodium. This is exactly how the sea is kept clean, it is very natural and the chlorine that is produced is of a different structure making it almost undetectable to smell and kind on the eyes. There is an additional bonus in that the salt in the pool gives more bouyancy that fresh water and that has allowed many of our younger visiter to learn to swim more quickly.

 

The Gardens
We are proud of our gardens at La Grange not only because of the way they are landscaped and the vast amount of colour in the flower beds, but because of the amount of enjoyment that they bring to our visiters.
The gardens were designed so that where ever you are on the site there is always something interesting to view, and with the gardens blending into the natural landscape it has the feel of space and being together with nature.
The gardens are basically in two parts, the landscaped garden and the sports field though within the former there a boules court.

One of the reasons that our Gites stand out from most others in the south of the Vendee is the amount and the quality of our on site Activities

What ever the weather there is something to keep you amused or entertained regardless of your age.

Children especially are catered for under the old saying if the children are content so are the parents.

Off Site the following are just some of the activities that can be found locally:
Fishing - We have free use of a nearby lake, with Carp, Pike, Roach etc.  Only approx 300 metres away! 
Other fishing in the Canals, Rivers and lakes requires a permit.
Tennis - Available in the local Village.
Golf - There are several courses within easy driving distance.
Boating - The lakes at mervent have sailboats, canoes, kayaks and pedalos for hire.
The Green Venice also has boat hire with or without a guide.
Biking - The hiring of bikes is possible at several locations.
Horse Riding - Available in the Mervent/Vouvant forest.
Karting - There is an excellent course at Fontenay-le-Comte, where karts can be hired.

La Grange Ardoux is a Saturday changeover day, however, this is flexible outside of the main season.
There is a £500 security deposit which is fully refundable if no damage to the property or breakages.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS, if required:      Hire of Bed linen, if required, £10 per person per week.  
                                                             House towels £10 per set - you need to bring pool towels.

Supplement of £50 for 7 night duration in school summer holidays.

 

Well behaved, house trained pets are welcome outside of main season at owners discretion.  Pets are not allowed in bedrooms or on furniture and must be cleaned up after.

LOCATION

Ardoux at La Grange is set in a quiet rural location.  One the edge of the village of L'Hermenault and within walking distance (1.5 km) of patisserie/boulangerie, tabac/cafe, small supermarket, pharmacy, post office, banks (with 24 hour cashpoint),  doctor (English spoken) and dentist.
The village St Martin des Fontaines (500 m) has a restaurant/bar which is very popular and reasonably priced. 
We are between the historic market towns of Fontenay-le-Comte (11km)and Lucon (15km). 
There is a large carp Fishing lake for customers at the property, which they are very welcome to use OR Trout and coarse fishing are within a 5 min drive and permits can be arranged. 
The open countryside all around the property is quiet, tranquil and excellent for cycling, walks, birdwatching, painting and wildlife or just generally relaxing, whilst on the doorstep lie numerous places of interest and outdoor activities to suit everyone. 

You can reach the beautiful golden Vendee beaches 45 minutes to an hour drive. Most beaches are backed by sand dunes and pine forests with large areas for picnics and scenic coastal walks. The Vendee coast stretches for 120km and boasts many blue flag awards. There is also a large man-made beach/activity park within 20 mins drive at nearby Xanton-Chassenon, this is very popular with lifeguards, water sports, children's play area, toboggan slides, picnic areas etc.

The pretty harbour of La Rochelle with its famous aquarium, numerous bars and restaurants and great shopping is approx. 50 mins drive. Futuroscope and Puy de Fou are approx. 1 hour's drive. The Marais Poitevin with its sleepy waterways, boat rides and beautiful abbeys is under 30 minutes by car. The Mervent Forest is 15 mins by car. Most Atlantic beaches can be reached within the hour.

For wine lovers, the nearby cave at Pissotte produces and sells direct to the public well-known local red and white wines.
Every 2 years (June 2010), Fontenay-le-Comte holds a magnificent carnival with floats and dancers from around the world. The whole event is finished with a magnificent firework display on the third night.

 

La Rochelle airport is 45-minute drive. Nantes airport 1-hour drive, Poitiers airport is 1hr 10 min drive. Car hire is available at these airports. St Malo is an easy 3-hour drive. Caen is approx 4.5 hours and Cherbourg approx 5.5 hours drive.
