CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Unbelievable hosts who made our stay so welcoming, comfortable and a memorable experience of France

Very good hosts, food excellent, accommodation to a very high standard, definitely be coming again.

Fantastic stay, pool was great fun, very relaxing, beautiful home.

Great time, great food, excellent hosts and a great base for La Rochelle.

One word, 3 syllables FAB-U-LOUS !!!! has the absolute WOW factor, hostess's with the mostest, beautiful scenery, never slept so long in my life such comfortable beds, totally relaxing.

We were welcomed by Emma & David as soon as we drove in. The Farmhouse is a lovely size, very clean & comfortable. We had been left a few essentials butter, juice, tea, coffee, milk & WINE! Which really helped.

The pool was used every day I think we loved it. We used the charcoal BBQ around 5/6 nights sitting outside under the shaded canopy. The patisserie is a 3 minute walk selling fresh baguettes & lots of other yummy things but is closed on a Wednesday.

The garden is stunning with lots of beautiful plants & homegrown veg. I made Chilli burgers one night for the BBQ with a few fresh chillies that Emma said we could help ourselves too my husband said it was the best burger ever!

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday away from all the crowds this is the place. Also having free wi-fi & UK TV was great too.

Thank you Emma & David for being lovely hosts & we would love to come back again.

The description and pictures of the gite on the website are very accurate, it's a really lovely place, beautifully restored. Emma and David were perfect hosts, being available 'next door' to answer questions and provide help/suggestions on places to visit and routes for running and cycling. But never there unless we asked for help (or perhaps offering us some veg from the garden!).

The pool was lovely to take a dip in, eating meals at the table in the garden was lovely and it was great to have the 'home comforts' of Freeview and WiFi!     Thoroughly recommended.      July 2015

This was our second visit and I am pleased to say it was as good as ever. Hosts Emma & David do their best to make your stay and nothing is too much trouble. Bedrooms are immaculate and there is a small sitting room for B&B guests as well as the pool area. I would definitely recommend ordering evening meal which is fantastic both in quality and value.

We had an extremely pleasant stay with all facilities laid on in a spacious and spotless house.

Emma and David were very hospitable and shared huge amounts of local knowledge with us as we stayed with them on a trip to help us decide whether to move to France in general and this area in particular. They gave us a lot of useful advice on moving over and what to consider, local contacts and so on. Nothing was too much trouble and they far exceeded our expectations all round.

Book with them and enjoy your holiday!     May 2014

We rented the entire farmhouse for 2 weeks this summer. The farmhouse was immaculately clean and completely as described so no hidden nasty surprises! The farmhouse is huge with 3 good sized bedrooms, a fabulous open plan kitchen and extremely large lounge. The outside area is lovely and extremely well maintained, we made great use of the pool which we had all to ourselves.

The owners could not have been more helpful, from preparing us a welcome bbq, to loaning us bikes, to cleaning the pool and various suggestions for day trips.

We loved Les Conches beach, about an hour away but well worth the drive. We also went to Futuroscope, lucky for us it was empty so no queues at all.

Thank you Emma and David, we all had a lovely time :-)))

LOCATION

This character cottage offers you an attractive rural riverside setting. Situated near the village of Vix on the edge of the "Green Venice" area of the Vendee. Vix is well known for its wine and you can taste and buy at many of the local wine producers. The village  offers basic amenities, bakery, grocery shop, bars and the nearest town and supermarket is at Marans or Fontenay-la Comte. The surrounding area has numerous canals and the quiet lanes are ideal for walking and cycling. There is a nature reserve at 500m offering great opportunities for bird-watching. Cycle hire is available at Marans or Arcais (delivery possible).

Our area of the Marais Poitevin is also known as the Venise Verte (Green Venice) and is world renowned by artists who come here for the light, the variety in the innumerable shades of green and to capture the magic of this enchanting area. The landscape is criss-crossed by a system of canals lined by willows and poplar trees. The canals are surrounded by green vegetation which is where the name of Venise Vert originates. The river Sevre runs through our area and along the banks are many pretty villages including Coulon (often referred to as the capital of the Venise Vert), Damvix and Arcais. At each of the villages you can hire a flat bottom boat to explore the canals or just take a gentle stroll along the many quiet footpaths. We are just minutes away from some great fishing spots which are a paradise for fishermen and a local nature reserve which can be enjoyed by wildlife lovers.
15 minutes away is Fontenay-le-Comte our nearest town with the old town surrounding the catherdral, the Chateau de Terre Neuve, many shops, restaurants and a market every Saturday morning.

Close by is Vouvant “one of the most beautiful villages in France” which is a haven for artists.
La Rochelle the third most visited town in France is a beautiful historic harbour town with numerous restaurants located around the port, a colourful daily food market and cosmopolitan shops. Here you can take the opportunity of finding that special bottle of wine or trying some of the 600 cheeses produced in France. You will also find one of the largest Aquariums in Europe with an amazing shark tank and marine life from all over the world. Anyone feeling a little adventurous can also take the local bus service from Vix to La Rochelle passing through some of the villages and small towns en route.

Located over the toll bridge from La Rochelle is the stunning island of the Ile de Re, known for its “fleur de sel” (the finest salt), sandy beaches and with over 100 kilometres of cycle routes (you can hire bikes on the Island) it is a paradise for cyclists. On the island you will find many villages and small towns to visit, one of the most famous being St Martin-de-Re which is a lively bustling town set around a harbour filled with brightly coloured boats. There are many chic boutiques to visit, along with a market which is open every morning, or enjoy a drink or a meal at the numerous cafés and restaurants on the harbour front.
Further afield but within 90 minutes are the theme parks of Puy de Fou and Futuroscope which are big tourist attractions for both the young and young at heart.  Le Puy de Fou, the famous French historical theme park - a fantastic day out which is well worth a visit.  There is also a nightshow - Cinescenie which needs to be booked in advance.
