Set in the Vendee in a peaceful and tranquil location, La Grange comprises of 2 attractive farmhouses which have been converted to 4 spacious gites each with it's own fully equipped kitchen, garden furniture, bbq and large terrace. The property enjoys views over open countryside and has 2.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.

Swimming Pools
Indoor Heated Pool
The Indoor heated pool is an 8m x 4m with a tiled finish, it is 1.5m deep.
There are tables and chairs around the pool and the large patio doors open out onto a large terrace with tables and chairs and there are great views across the surrounding country side.
The Pool has a heat cover which retains the heat when not in use.
The pool is protected by a by patio doors which has a high catch which must be fastened when the last responsible adult leaves.

Outdoor Pool
The Outdoor swimming pool is 10 x 6m with roman steps, it varies in height from 2.4m at the deep end to .9m at the shallow end. It is constructed in concrete with a fibre glass liner.
The pool is not heated other than by the sun, but is generally at a suitable temperature from May till October 
The pool has a large terrace with tables and chairs and is protected by a hedge and security fence with self-closing gates.
The sterilization of the pool is by saline electrolysis. To put it simply the pool has salt in it and the electrolysis machine breaks the salt down into its base components, chlorine and sodium. This is exactly how the sea is kept clean, it is very natural and the chlorine that is produced is of a different structure making it almost undetectable to smell and kind on the eyes. There is an additional bonus in that the salt in the pool gives more bouyancy that fresh water and that has allowed many of our younger visiter to learn to swim more quickly.

 

The Gardens
We are proud of our gardens at La Grange not only because of the way they are landscaped and the vast amount of colour in the flower beds, but because of the amount of enjoyment that they bring to our visiters.
The gardens were designed so that where ever you are on the site there is always something interesting to view, and with the gardens blending into the natural landscape it has the feel of space and being together with nature.
The gardens are basically in two parts, the landscaped garden and the sports field though within the former there a boules court.

What ever the weather there is something to keep you amused or entertained regardless of your age.

Children especially are catered for under the old saying if the children are content so are the parents.

Off Site the following are just some of the activities that can be found locally:
Fishing - We have free use of a nearby lake, with Carp, Pike, Roach etc.  Only approx 300 metres away! 
Other fishing in the Canals, Rivers and lakes requires a permit.
Tennis - Available in the local Village.
Golf - There are several courses within easy driving distance.
Boating - The lakes at mervent have sailboats, canoes, kayaks and pedalos for hire.
The Green Venice also has boat hire with or without a guide.
Biking - The hiring of bikes is possible at several locations.
Horse Riding - Available in the Mervent/Vouvant forest.
Karting - There is an excellent course at Fontenay-le-Comte, where karts can be hired.

 

ACCOMMODATION AT LA GRANGE
LA GRANGE ARDOUX - 5 Bedroom Gite.  Sleeps 10    Saturday changeover day
Bedroom 1 on the ground floor. A lounge area with easy chairs and coffee table.
Bedroom 2 Double bed with ensuite bathroom. Dressing Room with wardrobe and a lounge area with easy chairs and coffee table.
Bedroom 3 Double bed with ensuite bathroom, wardrobe and dressing table. Good views over the gardens.
Bedroom 4 & 5 - Both bedrooms have two single beds, wardrobe and dressing table.
On the first floor there is a bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.
In the entrance hall there is toilet and washbasin.
The lounge is a large beautiful room with log burner,large table and chairs to dine 10 in comfort. Plenty of easy chairs for relaxing or watching the TV or DVD.
The spacious Kitchen has oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. There are ample pots, pans and utensil, and large storage and work surfaces.

SAPIN - 2 Bedroom Gite.  Sleeps 6       Thursday changeover day
A large apartment on one floor.  
Two bedrooms, the largest with twin beds and bunk beds.
The second bedroom with en-suite facilities has a double bed.
There is a separate bathroom with a large shower, vanity unit and WC.
The lounge has an integral kitchen and dining area, also a comfortable sofa bed, and doors that open onto a sheltered patio.
The kitchen has a 4 burner stove with oven, washing machine and a large refrigerator.

FRENE - 3 Bedroom Gite.  Sleeps 6     Thursday Changeover day
Two entrances from the terrace to split-levels.  
Ground floor with double bedroom. Separate shower room with washing machine
Bathroom with shower, WC, washbasin and washing machine.
Lobby leading to lounge with integral kitchen/diner with all conveniences and a double sofa bed.
On 1st floor there are two well appointed twin bedrooms and a second bathroom.

An apartment on two floors with two entrances.  
Twin bedded bedroom on ground floor.
Bathroom with WC, shower, washbasin and washing machine.

Three bedrooms on first floor.
Bedroom 1 has bunk beds and a single bed.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed & bedroom 3 has twin beds.

Well behaved, house trained pets are welcome outside of main season at owners discretion.  Pets are not allowed in bedrooms or on furniture and must be cleaned up after.

We have just returned from our holidays at La Grange. Its not very often that a location surpasses the description of their web site, but in the case of La Grange it most certainly did.

We were greeted on arrival by Trevor, a gentleman, who showed us around the beautiful spacious house which we made home for two weeks, each of the 8 of us felt very comfortable there and every facility that was needed was on hand.

The two swimming pools and the games room as well as the gardens, as well as some very local facilities, were more than sufficient to entertain us for the duration of our holiday, and resulted in us doing a lot less touring than we had planned.
Overall we had a wonderful time at La Grange and we do look forward to holidaying there again.

Please pass our congratulations to Trevor on a great venue and our thanks to him for been a perfect host who was constantly available to us and all his guests.

LOCATION

La Grange is set in a quiet rural location.  One the edge of the village of L'Hermenault and within walking distance (1.5 km) of patisserie/boulangerie, tabac/cafe, small supermarket, pharmacy, post office, banks (with 24 hour cashpoint),  doctor (English spoken) and dentist.
The village St Martin des Fontaines (500 m) has a restaurant/bar which is very popular and reasonably priced. 
We are between the historic market towns of Fontenay-le-Comte (11km)and Lucon (15km). 
There is a large carp Fishing lake for customers at the property, which they are very welcome to use OR Trout and coarse fishing are within a 5 min drive and permits can be arranged. 
The open countryside all around the property is quiet, tranquil and excellent for cycling, walks, birdwatching, painting and wildlife or just generally relaxing, whilst on the doorstep lie numerous places of interest and outdoor activities to suit everyone. 

You can reach the beautiful golden Vendee beaches 45 minutes to an hour drive. Most beaches are backed by sand dunes and pine forests with large areas for picnics and scenic coastal walks. The Vendee coast stretches for 120km and boasts many blue flag awards. There is also a large man-made beach/activity park within 20 mins drive at nearby Xanton-Chassenon, this is very popular with lifeguards, water sports, children's play area, toboggan slides, picnic areas etc.

The pretty harbour of La Rochelle with its famous aquarium, numerous bars and restaurants and great shopping is approx. 50 mins drive. Futuroscope and Puy de Fou are approx. 1 hour's drive. The Marais Poitevin with its sleepy waterways, boat rides and beautiful abbeys is under 30 minutes by car. The Mervent Forest is 15 mins by car. Most Atlantic beaches can be reached within the hour.

For wine lovers, the nearby cave at Pissotte produces and sells direct to the public well-known local red and white wines.
Every 2 years (June 2010), Fontenay-le-Comte holds a magnificent carnival with floats and dancers from around the world. The whole event is finished with a magnificent firework display on the third night.

 

La Rochelle airport is 45-minute drive. Nantes airport 1-hour drive, Poitiers airport is 1hr 10 min drive. Car hire is available at these airports. St Malo is an easy 3-hour drive. Caen is approx 4.5 hours and Cherbourg approx 5.5 hours drive.
